MARGAO
The stage is finally getting set for the Viksit Bharat rally on February 6 at the Margao KTC bus stand, billed in political circles as the launch of the ruling BJP’s campaign for the coming Lok Sabha polls at the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Though the Viksit Bharat programme is a government-hosted programme, ruling party machinery is at work to mobilize a mammoth 50,000 people from across the state for the rally, expected to set the tone for the coming election.
Hectic preparations are underway at the venue with agencies on the job to give final touches to the massive pandal erected at the sprawling KTC bus stand. A visit to the venue on Sunday revealed that work is going on at a brisk pace to meet the deadline and with just a day and half to go for the mega rally.
Workers were on the job to arrange rows of chairs inside the massive pandal. Separate teams were engaged in different works at the venue. One team was found looking after the stage from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the people on February 6.
Though the main pandal is expected to play host to around 20,000-25,000 people, the pandal has been extended sideways to accommodate the people. Provision for live screens will be made at the extended portion of the pandal.
The four-decade old Margao KTC bus shed has got a makeover with the PWD replacing the asbestos sheets with galvanized sheets painted in red. Trees lining along the KTC bus shed and the NH66 has been cut down and the entire place either tarred or paved.
The PWD, Roads had hot mixed the entire KTC bus stand for the big occasion. The PWD is still on the job to hot mix the roads in Margao and Fatorda ahead of the mega rally.
