The Urban Department’s fiat to the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) to withdraw the recruitment process as canceled has triggered a stalemate of sorts.
The issue is believed to have brought MMC Chairperson Damu Shirodkar and Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar face to face, with the Chairperson refusing to sign on the notice for the cancellation of the recruitment process.
On the other hand, with the Chairperson not giving the nod to issue the public notice to stop the recruitment process, the Chief Officer is believed to have requested GEL to disable and block candidates from applying for the 43 posts comprising of eight LDCs, 34 workers and a mason.
What’s further interesting to note is that while Urban Development Minister Vishwajit Rane has not yet withdraw the note put up to the Urban Development Director Gurudas Pilarnekar, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat has not stopped reassuring all and sundry that the government would withdraw the letter cancelling the recruitment process.
In another development on Thursday, a meeting was reportedly convened in Panaji to discuss the issue and end the ongoing stalemate, but the meet was called off at the eleventh hour after the Urban Development officials maintained they cannot attend a meeting not called by the Urban Development Minister.
The end result being that the fate of the recruitment process to fill up the 43 posts hangs in balance.
Sources in the know informed that Urban Development Minister appears firm in respect of the note put up by him to Urban Development Director Gurudas Pilarnekar to withdraw the process as cancelled.
In his note, Rane pointed out that the either the Director or the staff selection commission should fill up the posts created in all the Municipal councils in the State.
The Margao MLA, sources said, is hoping that the government would withdraw the letter sent by the Urban Development Director to the MMC Chief Officer to cancel the recruitment process. Kamat’s predicament is understandable given that at least two of the ruling BJP councilors were promised at the time of formation of the Margao Municipal Council in October last year that their siblings would be recruited as LDCs in the civic body.
The two ruling councilors have been insisting that the ruling party honour its promise made last year, with one of the Councilors even going to the media that he would reconsider support to the BJP-led Council in the event the promise is not fulfilled by the party.
