PERNEM
Expressing anguish over rising Covid cases in Pernem, the Congress hit out at Deputy Chief Minister and Pernem MLA Babu Ajgaonkar over his failure to start the Covid care centre.
"The Covid care centre at the indoor stadium in Sawalwado-Pernem is ready, but the deputy chief minister is unwilling to take that extra step and make the facility available to his own people in Pernem taluka," said Congress spokesperson Vithu Morajkar.
Morajkar led a Congress delegation to the deputy collector’s office on Thursday and submitted an appeal, demanding the opening of the Covid care centre as soon as possible.
The delegation included Congress Seva Dal Youth President Rashesh Bondre, Prakash Kinlekar, Narayan Redkar, Rudresh Deshprabhu and Sagar Deshprabhu.
Meanwhile, Pernem Deputy Collector Ravishankar Nipanikar stated that the Pernem Covid centre was expected to start in eight days.
Responding to the demands of the Congress delegation at his office on Thursday, Nipanikar said all formalities to start the centre had been completed.
He explained that the centre had not opened due to a delay over the arrival of some medical instruments which had been ordered from other states.
"Once these medical instruments are made available, the Covid care centre at Pernem will be started within the next eight days,” said the dy collector.
