State BJP chief says police given free hand to probe teen’s death

MAPUSA
State BJP President, Sadnand Tanavade on Saturday said that police were given a free hand to investigate into the death of the teenaged girl whose body was found on the Calangute beach in mysterious circumstances two days ago.

Tanavade also informed that he knew the family of the deceased girl as her father was a karyakarta of the BJP and worked for him when he was an MLA.

“There is no pressure and there is no question of protecting anyone. Police have been given a free hand to probe the incident from all the angles so that justice is done to the girl and her family,” Tanavade said.

The deceased girl hails from the village in Aldona constituency.

Aldona MLA, Glen Ticlo said that a detailed investigation was being conducted over the death of the girl.

“I have spoken to the chief minister in the matter and if necessary the investigation in the case could be handed over to the crime branch,” Ticlo said.

Meanwhile, Calangute Police have preferred to remain mum over the investigation in the sensitive case which has shocked the State after the body of the deceased girl was found on Calangute beach under mysterious circumstances.

“We are investigating the matter vigorously. It’s not right to disclose any developments at this stage as it will only hamper the probe,” Calangute PI, Nolasco Raposo told The Goan.

It may be recalled the deceased teenager went missing from Wednesday morning after her father dropped her at the Hotel Green Park at Guirim near Mapusa.

The girl was last spotted at the Mapusa bus-stand.

After getting information that her daughter had not reported to work, her father lodged a missing complaint with Mapusa Police on Wednesday afternoon.

The body of the 19-year-old girl was found on the Calangute beach early on Thursday morning.
