The State administration has extended the jurisdiction of section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code over the entire North Goa district beyond February 28 (Monday) for another six months.
In a notification issued last Friday, Under Secretary (Home-II) Girish G Sawant said, the order will be in force for six months with effect from February 28, unless it is formally revoked earlier.
Invoking powers under sub-section 4 of section 144 of the CrPC, Sawant said the Government of Goa extends the order of the North Goa District Magistrate issued on December 30 last year, for a further period of six months.
Although there was no clear reason mentioned for extending section 144 of the CrPC over the entire North Goa district, the eruption of farmers' agitation against the Mopa airport link road work in Pernem could have weighed in on the government, sources said.
