Slamming the government, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Convenor Elvis Gomes on Saturday said the State government leaders and its machinery were often found "sleeping" and therefore the government of the day failed to understand the difficulty of the citizens.
"Those who run the government and its machinery are mostly in sleeping mode. They don't even know...Sometimes I wonder whether they even understand what is going on," Gomes said.
"To make the government aware, AAP has handed a document of senior citizen's charter of rights to the director of social welfare department," he added.
The AAP convenor was addressing a gathering of senior citizens after installing AAP's "Senior Citizens Front" in Mayura Hall in Mapusa.
Speaking further, he said the document encapsulating the rights of senior citizens was prepared after a long research by women members of the party.
"AAP volunteers held a series of meetings and dialogues with senior citizens across the State and also visited State run old-age homes while preparing the charter of rights. The needs of senior citizens have been captured in this document," he said.
Gomes requested the director of social welfare department to go through the document and take immediate steps in resolving problems faced by senior citizens in the State.
"We are not asking a favour from the government. We are only saying enforce the right of the senior citizens. Give them whatever is due to them," he said.
Expecting a positive response from the government, he said if at all government fails to take any action then AAP was open to take legal remedies.
"But I have hope. The director is a former colleague and he will do something. My request to the director is to give what is right of the senior citizen," he said.
