State’s Covid toll crosses 3,000 as 11 more succumb

Goa crossed yet another grim milestone of 3000 Covid deaths on Tuesday after 11 more people succumbed to the dreaded virus in the last 24 hours.

The number of hospitalized patients also increased to 42 even as 26 patients were discharged from different hospitals across the State. Of the 11 deaths 7 were recorded at GMC, one each at SGDH and Manipal Hospital and 2 at Mother care Hospital.

Among the 11 deaths, a 34-year-old man from Curtorim was the youngest to succumb to the virus.

Among the others were a 64-year-old woman from Gogal, 50-year-old man from Shiroda, 53-year-old woman from Caranzalem, 84-year-old woman from Caranzalem, 40-year-old man from Old Goa, 76-year-old woman from Porvorim, 59-year-old man from Cumbharjua, 65-year-old woman from Bicholim a 49-year-old woman and a 70- year-old man succumbed to Covid in last 24-hours.

After a gap of 5 days, the daily death toll has gone above 10.

During the peak of the first wave in September last, Goa had recorded an average of 8 deaths per day.

Meanwhile, Goa recorded a low Covid positivity rate of 7.02 per cent but number of cases continued to be high. 

A total of 303 new Covid cases were detected after testing 4311 samples. 

The number of cases has increased by nearly hundred more as compared to the last two days however the positivity rate is at 7.02 %.

With 438 recoveries the active Covid count has dropped below 3,000 mark and now stands at 2,920. The recovery rate is 96.41 per cent.
