Union Minister of Health Mansukh Mandaviya hailed Goa for ensuring developing facilities across all the sectors while stating that one Health and Wellness Centre is available for a population of 5,000 to 6,000 in the State.
“Tele-consultation facilities are also working well in the State to connect expert doctors from GMC Hospital to rural health centres. Health centres in Goa have facilities for detection and preliminary treatment of 3 types of cancers -- oral, breast and cervical cancer,” he said while speaking to reporters on the second day of the G20 Summit at Bambolim, on Tuesday.
Mandaviya thereafter visited the Corlim Primary Health and Wellness Centre to showcase the primary level healthcare and its digital health facilities to the G20 delegates. He also suggested showcasing the facilities available at the primary level for the people of Goa and across the country.
“In the health sector, India is very progressive. We are looking at the health sector not only as dispensaries but through the Prime Minister’s vision to make the health sector holistic from the view of wellness, treatment and therapeutics. The country is changing and taking a leap ... Any country that wishes to become a developed country needs to give priority to the health of its citizens. Healthy citizens are the route to a healthy society and having a healthy society is one of the core parameters of a developed country,” the union minister said.
At the event venue, the first mobile Biosafety level-3 (BSL-3) laboratory, named 'RAMBAAN (Rapid Action Mobile BSL-3 Advanced Augmented Network) was launched. The laboratory is designed to investigate newly emerging and re-emerging viral infections that could potentially endanger human lives.
“The laboratory also plays an important role in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic. BSL-3 is first of its kind in Asia and in India with the name 'RAMBAAN'. This laboratory is capable of reaching out to the remotest areas of our nation,” Dr Rajni Kant, Director of the Regional Medical Research Centre, Delhi said.
India has two operational mobile laboratories, with one located at RMRC, Gorakhpur, catering to the northeastern part of the country, while the southern and western parts have access to the laboratory located at NIV Pune.
The mobile laboratory is equipped with a -20 degree and -80 degree refrigerator, bio-safety cabinets, an automatic Ribonucleic acid (RNA) extractor, and a real-time PCR machine.
