Saying that Goa’s water requirements will be fully met by the year 2047, Water Resources Department Minister Subhash Shirodkar on Saturday said that the government will build 100 more bhandaras taking the total number of bhandaras in the State to 500.
He further said the government has launched augmentation of water supply to South Goa via an additional 100 MLD plant. He also said that North Goa would receive water supply through the Sal project.
Saying that the talukas of Dharbandora, Quepem, Ponda and Sattari has rich water resources, Shirodkar said the government is on a mission to tap the water from the bhandaras to meet the State’s water requirements. “Like Punjab which is a granary of wheat, Dharbandora, Quepem, Ponda and Sattari constitute Goa’s rich water resources. We have embarked on a plan to tap the water to meet our requirements,” he said.
Saying the government has taken up the project to augment Selaulim water supply by additional 100 MLD, Shirodkar said there will be no water shortage in South Goa, including Margao and Vasco, once completed.
“We have also embarked on a project to tap water from river Kushavati. We will be able to provide water supply for 8-10 hours a day,” he added.
