A host of follow-up measures have been initiated to put things in order at the Cutbona fishing jetty, with Sub-divisional Magistrate, Jyoti Kumari, IAS directing the fisheries officials to submit within 10 days the road map for the towing way of abandoned and damaged boats from the Cutbona jetty.
At a follow up meeting held in the South district Collectorate on Thursday after the inspection of the jetty earlier this week, the fisheries officials maintained they have already issued show cause notice to the boat owners to tow away the abandoned vessels. The officials further claimed the department is in the process of floating a tender to appoint agencies to tow away the boats.
At this juncture, SDM Kumari told the Fisheries officials to submit in detail within 10 days the road map, including details when exactly the tender will be floated to appoint agencies to tow away the vessels.
On the sanitation front, officials of Sulabha agency said they are open to the proposal of introducing the pass system wherein labourers need pay the fees every time they avail the toilet facility.
On the long-pending issue of constructing the 50-seater toilet block, it was decided that the concerned departments will do the follow up with the Town and Country Planning department. It was already decided to identify the land at the jetty for the installation of the mobile toilets pending construction of the 50-seater block.
The meeting also discussed with health officials how to put the measures in place to ensure vector borne disease does not raise its ugly head in and around the Cutbona jetty.
IN this connection, it has been decided that the fisheries department will share details of the migrant labourers employed on the fishing vessels operating from Cutbona.
On the presence of the gaddas and kiosks on the landward side the Cutbona jetty, GOACAN coordinator Roland Martins informed that since these small business establishments may come in handy to meet the requirement of the migrant crew working on the vessels, it was decided to put a mechanism in place to ensure they all work within the set rules.
When the issue of sanitation aboard the vessels came up for discussion, the meeting decided to have an interaction with boat owners, to find out whether the bio-toilets can be installed on the vessels in order to control the discharge of sewage in the river Sal and in the sea.
