CANACONA
A few shacks were swept away while an electricity pole got uprooted as strong waves pounded Polem beach, causing massive sand erosion along the State’s southernmost beach.
According to locals, the sea level suddenly began to rise substantially particularly during high tide for the past two days and strong waves began to pound the coastline.
The coastline was battered, as strong waves were continuously taking off large chunks of sand, destroying many of the sand dunes and virtually sweeping away the foundations of some shacks in private properties. An electricity pole also got uprooted and fell on the beach.
A few coconut trees got uprooted, while roots of different trees were dangerously exposed following the sand erosion.
