MARGAO
PWD Minister Digambar Kamat on Thursday said the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community is constitutionally entitled to political reservation in the Goa Legislative Assembly. He expressed confidence that the reservation could be notified before the 2027 Assembly elections.
“Political reservation for Scheduled Tribes is provided under the Constitution. While there may be differing views, especially on the census, STs are entitled to political reservation,” he said.
Kamat recalled that the Gawda, Kunbi and Velip communities were granted ST status during ex-PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure.
