Having boycotted classes for two days to protest against the sudden transfer of the school principal, Dr Ulhas Gaonkar, students and their parents of the Pissurlem government school called off their agitation on Wednesday.
The decision to call off the protest was taken at a joint meeting with the School PTA, the school management committee, and Pissurlem Sarpanch Devanand Parab on Wednesday.
A delegation from the PTA and the school management committee had also met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday to cancel the transfer of Dr Gaonkar to a school in Amona, and the chief minister promised to look into the matter.
While promising to provide all guidance to the Pissurlem school, Dr Gaonkar explained that transfers are part of the administrative system and appealed to the parents to provide their support and cooperation to the new principal to ensure academic excellence and progress at the school.
