Valpoi assault: Police doubt gunshot, suspect object hit man

PANAJI

A 35-year-old labourer from Bihar, Mohammad Akhtar Alam, was injured near Karapur Tisk junction in Sattari last week. What was first reported as a gunshot is now unclear, with police saying the wound may have been caused by an object thrown at him.

Police said Alam was sitting near the junction around 7:30 pm on Saturday with two others when he heard a loud sound like an electric spark. He then felt an object hit the right side of his neck, which started bleeding. His companions called Alam’s brother and rushed him to CHC Sanquelim. He was later shifted to GMC Bambolim for treatment.

Eyewitnesses confirmed they heard a loud sound and saw the injury but did not notice anyone nearby. Local residents also said they did not hear anything unusual.

Valpoi Police have registered a case (CR No. 55/2025 under Sections 125, 118 BNS 2023). The investigation is ongoing and the attacker has not yet been identified.
