'Sudhir Sukta': Cops register FIR against Wagh, publisher

Ponda police on Tuesday registered an FIR against former MLA and noted poet Vishnu Surya Wagh and publisher (Apurbaay Prakashan) over the controversial poetry collection book ‘Sudhir Sukta'.
An offence has been registered under Sections 292, 293 of IPC and Section 4 of Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act 1986.
Wagh courted controversyover his Konkani poetry book ‘Sudhir Sukta', after a jury reportedly leaked the information that Goa Konknni Academy (GKA) decided to give one literary award to Wagh's book.
Though the book was published in 2013, there was a hue and cry after information was made public through social media. This could be the first such case in Konkani literary area, where publisher and writer have been booked for ‘content'.
Bailancho Ekvott president Auda Viegas also joined the ‘opposition group' and lodged a complaint against Wagh and the publisher. The police complaints were lodged at Margao and Panaji police stations on September 4.
Speaking to The Goan, Viegas said she has no personal issues either with poet or publisher, but the content in the book is unwanted. "The language used in the book about women is very derogatory, abusive, vulgar and an assault to her dignity. Even speaking against caste is unwanted,"

Employees strike: KTC suspends us trips to Maharashtra
