PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar will lay the foundation stone for the construction of a box culvert and retaining wall for the approach to the box culvert at Ramnathi Patto in Bandora-Ponda on Sunday at 4:30 pm.
The existing narrow culvert, which was constructed during the Portuguese rule, was unable to cater to growing traffic and hence, Dhavalikar decided to widen it.
Dhavalikar informed that benches will also be placed in the area, to facilitate senior citizens and others during their walks in the village.
According to Dhavalikar, the existing culvert is in dilapidated condition and hence, needed urgent attention.”The new structure will also accommodate more pedestrians. There are educational institutes in this area and this culvert was unable to accommodate the growing number of vehicles. Once this widened culvert is opened to traffic, it will help all motorists,” Dhavalikar said.
The minister also expressed his desire to promote agriculture activities in the area. “The nullah flowing from Betora, Curti and Ponda also passes through Ramnathi and other parts of Bandora. As people started to release sewage and polluted water in this nallah, agriculture activities had come to a halt. I want to rejuvenate this whole area and promote agriculture activities,” he said.
PWD Secretary Daulat Hawaldar; Principal Chief Engineer Uttam Parsekar; engineers Vijaykumar Verenkar, Rajendra Kamat, Sanjay Vaze, Devendra Velingkar; Zilla Panchayat member Chitra Phadate; Bandora Deputy Sarpanch Saloni Gaude, panchas Kavita Naik, Ajay Naik, Saisha Naik, Bhasker Naik, Nitesh Mulvi, Rajesh Naik, Vaman Naik, Ramchandra Naik, Vishakha Gaude, Zairuddin Mulla and others will be present on the occasion.
