Demands to allot portfolios back to Cumbharjua MLA Madkaikar once he recovers and chairmanship of a major corporation to his wife and Old Goa Sarpanch Janita Madkaikar were made by aggrieved supporters of Markaikar, as BJP State President Vinay Tendulkar sought to pacify them at Old Goa on Tuesday.
Tendulkar held a meeting at the residence of former power minister Pandurang Madkaikar in the presence of his wife Janita and close supporters.
Sources said that the meeting was arranged by the BJP state president to explain the decision taken by the party to drop Madkaikar as power minister.
Corlim sarpanch Shiva Naik, who was one of those present at the meeting, informed The Goan that the BJP president conveyed to them that since Madkaikar was ill, he was dropped and that as soon as he gets well, he would be again sworn in as minister.
“We questioned the BJP State president on the need to drop Madkaikar as minister when he was on the way to complete recovery. Tendulkar promised us that the party would reinstate Madkaikar as minister once he recovers,” said Naik.
Naik further informed that the supporters have also demanded that Janita Madkaikar be allotted chairmanship of a major corporation in the meanwhile. “I also questioned Tendulkar about the aspirations of Cumbarjua youth who were hoping to get government jobs when Madkaikar was minister. What is the future of these youth who were depending on Madkaikar. We expressed dismay that the move comes at a time when jobs are to be advertised,” Naik said, adding, “We have given an MLA to BJP in Cumbarjua for the first time and he should have been treated better,” Naik added.
Sources informed that Sao Mathias Sarpanch Sadanand Fadte, Cumbarjua deputy sarpanch Surendra Naik and others were present for the meeting.
