A tourist who arrived to Goa from China is suspected to be infected with the dreaded coronavirus and has been kept at a specially set up isolation unit at the Goa Medical College (GMC).
The infection has not been confirmed yet as the blood samples have been sent to a laboratory outside the State.
Health Secretary Sanjay Kumar Jha disclosed that the tourist had travelled from China to Goa and had complained of sore throat. He has been kept under observation at the GMC where a special isolation unit has been set up.
Interestingly, the lone international airport in the State through which thousands of tourists enter does not have facility to scan the body temperature suspected patients. Health secretary informed that they have requested Civil Aviation Ministry to provide scanners at Dabolim airport.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, it may be recalled had given instructions to form a task force with immediate effect to monitor any cases of coronavirus in the State.
The coronavirus is a large family of viruses that causes illness ranging from the common cold to acute respiratory syndromes. Till date, no casualties have been reported in the country.
