Suspended hawaldar allegedly defied transfer order

PANAJI

The controversy-ridden hawaldar Samir Fadte, currently suspended over the Marcel assault episode, allegedly enjoyed a leisurely period since last February.

Reliable police sources revealed to The Goan that instead of serving at the Ponda police station where he was officially transferred, Fadte was reportedly attached to the Sub Divisional Police Officer Ashish Shirodkar until the latter’s eventual transfer.

“Fadte did not report to Ponda PS during this time and worked directly under the former SDPO Ashish Shirodkar. In fact, when the officer (among six other officers) was transferred and given a new posting on January 11, Fadte applied for leave on the very next day,” the source said.

The leave period was for 40 days as Shirodkar took over his new charge at Cyber Crime and ATS Panaji.

This means, when the alleged assault on the fast food stall owner Viraj Mashelkar happened, Fadte was on leave and scheduled to join duty on February 23. However, he now stands suspended pending a departmental enquiry.

The hawaldar, as reported by The Goan, faces multiple complaints also registered against him. Despite avoiding strict action previously, it is now revealed that forgery of medical certificates for sick leave has landed him in trouble. After consistent reporting by The Goan, the department initiated a departmental enquiry with a second inquiry report also confirming his offense.

“He did not submit genuine medical certificates to avail leave,” a senior officer added.
