Asserting that cleanliness begins from home, Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza said if every citizen focuses on keeping his surrounding clean then Swachhata will have meaning.
“If each one of us is able to keep our house and the neighbourhood clean on a daily basis, then our ward will remain clean. If we are able to keep our house clean, then only our State and country will become clean. Only then Swachh Bharat Abhiyan will be successful,” D’Souza said.
Mapusa MLA was speaking at a function organised by Mapusa council to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at the Gandhi Chowk in Mapusa.
Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson Ryan Braganza, Vice Chairperson Marlene D’Souza, Chief Officer Clen Madeira, councillors and civic staff were also present.
Braganza said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been able to galvanise the country with the Swachh Bharat movement.
“Mahatma Gandhi’s dream for our country will be fulfilled if we work to make our Prime Minister’s call to ban plastic in the country successful,” Braganza said.
