The Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar however said that it would not be proper for the House to take up any issues for discussion when the election to Leagislative Assembly had just concluded and the fate of the candidates was sealed.
“What about the people? The people want legislators to raise issues. If we can’t raise issues then who will?
“I wanted to raise only the bar issue. Why is democracy being subdued?” Reginaldo Lourenço said.
“It is a shame for the BJP government to call off the one-day session within three minutes without discussing any issue that we wanted to raise. The Chief Minister and BJP government have failed miserably in convening the House which they could have could have done it before but they didn’t. Now they are doing
it and see the manner. What are they projecting to the people,” he said.
Now that the session has been called, Reginaldo alleged a leeway for horse trading would be offered as there would be no urgency to form the government once the results are out. Parsekar denied the charge.
“Today’s session was a technical session. When the fate of the next government has been sealed in the EVMs, convening a session by the earlier government was against the constitution I would say,” Parsekar said.
“It would be mockery of democracy, elections and constitution to debate issues of the old government. On account of that, to reach that six-month requirement on technical ground the session was called and we did not take any business and had no intention of taking any issues also,” Parsekar said.
