The monsoon fury since the last two days paralysed normal life in Sanguem, Quepem and Curchorem.

With overflowing rivers at all places, the agricultural plantations at Rivona and Sanguem were totally under water making the farmers stare at huge losses which would be ascertained only after the rain subsides.

The Kushwati river at Quepem and Xeldem resembled a sea with water all around which even entered the houses located closeby.

The people residing at Zambaulim and Rivona also had tough time in reaching to their places as the main road was submerged by water due to swollen Kushawati river.

The Paroda bridge went under water once again. This being the third time during the current monsoon season making the people living across the Paroda bridge and those commuting to Quepem and Margao follow alternate routes after the main road was closed for vehicular traffic.

At Shiv Nagar Xeldem, retaining wall collapsed leading to loose mud entering into a residential house causing minor damages.

At Paroda, a senior citizen Yoganand Ashtekar who tried to cross the flooded road with his four-wheeler was caught off guard and got stuck in the middle of the road after his car got partially submerged under water.

Ashtekar was later moved to safety by the Fire Brigade officials from Curchorem. Ashtekar was holed up in the car for almost an hour, informed sources.

At Villian Sanguem, a portion of a mud house covered with Mangalore tiles collapsed causing damages to the household items and other electronic gadgets.

No injuries were however reported to person as the husband-wife duo had moved out of the house while the wall was about to give way.

After getting the information, Sanguem Mamlatdar Siddharth Prabhu rushed to the site along with the talathi and conducted the panchanama. The matter will be reported to the Collector for payment of compensation to the owner of the house Mahadev Naik, informed Prabhu.
