Adhering to norms by the Indian Railways in view of the Covid“19 threats, the South Western Railways (SWR) as a precautionary measure has decided to temporarily suspend distribution of blankets in AC coaches and has also removed curtains till further orders.
“Temperature in AC coaches will be increased up to 25 deg celsius accordingly. However, passengers can bring their own blankets, etc for their own use,” the press release stated.
To prevent the spread of Coronavirus through rail passengers, Railway Board has also advised rail authorities to implement precautionary measures immediately by frequently cleaning of coaches that are in constant contact of travelling public and removal of curtains and blankets which are the soft-spots for spread of the virus.
“Bedsheets and pillows will be supplied as usual, but woollen blankets will be supplied only on demand. However, additional fresh washed linen is being stocked in sealed packets in coaches to be supplied, if necessary,” a SWR press release stated.
Meanwhile, SWR has taken immediate action and has stepped up hygiene and implemented frequent cleaning of contact areas of travelling public/public interface areas in stations with disinfectants.
These include entrances, handrails, door handles, toilet door handles and latches, toilet health faucets, flush handles, water taps, etc. for the prevention of the spread of Covid-19. Awareness too is being created through various media.
“Standard of sanitation at station is being stepped up under supervision of Health Supervisors. We urge cooperation of the travelling public to maintain hygiene in stations and trains,” a SWR spokesperson said.
