Excelling in parcel transportation, the Hubballi Division of South Western Railway ( SWR) for the first time has registered parcel revenue of Rs 2.03 crores in May, surpassing the previous best of Rs 1.44 crores in April. The revenue has started crossing Rs 1 crore mark since October last year.
The proactive reach and regular interaction with trade & industries has helped in the increase of parcel business, Divisional Railway Manager Arvind Malkhede said.
“In May, five Parcel Special trains were run from Vasco to Guwahati fetching a revenue of Rs 87 lakhs, two rakes of 25 wagons each were run from Vasco to Khoriin, Haryana and another five NMG rakes of 25 wagons each were run from Vasco to Mirzapur, Bacchaud in Haryana generating Rs 83 lakhs. A special train with general second class coaches was also run from Vasco to Kalmeshwar in Nagpur, Maharashtra with a revenue of Rs 7 lakh. Besides these Parcel Special trains, parcels were also loaded in luggage vans of various passenger trains,” Malkhede said. This also shows the renewed interest of customers and business community in transporting their cargo through railways, he added.
Giving further details, he said that initiatives like utilization of idle trains and rakes for transporting parcels of goods like chocolates, medicines, fish, tyres etc and other industrial products were carried from Vasco and other stations of the SWR, Malkhede said lauding initiatives of SWR team headed by Sr Divisional Commercial Manager Syed Imtiaz Ahamed.
He also urged the officers to increase interaction with industries and provide suitable logistic solutions for improved transportation of cargo from North Karnataka and Goa region.
