MARGAO
The Tiatr Academy of Goa has express deep sorrow at the passing of Eric Ozario, a towering figure in Konkani music and culture.
TAG president Anthony Barbosa has said that Eric Ozario was not just a gifted composer and performer, but a cultural visionary who dedicated his life to preserving and promoting Konkani language, music, and identity. “As the founder of Mandd Sobhann and the driving force behind Kalaangann in Mangaluru, his work inspired generations to take pride in their roots and celebrate the richness of our traditions,” he said.
He added: “His contribution in uniting the global Konkani community will be remembered as a cornerstone of our cultural history. His passing is a great loss not only to Karnataka and Goa but to the entire Konkani-speaking world.”
Barbosa said the Tiatr Academy of Goa stands in solidarity with his family, friends, and the cultural fraternity in mourning this irreparable loss. His legacy will continue to inspire our work in the field of Konkani and beyond.
GRLA pays tribute to Ozario, hails him as crusader for Konkani
MARGAO: The Global Romi Lipi Abhiyan (GRLA) has mourned the passing of Eric Ozario, hailing him as a true crusader for Konkani. GRLA convenor Kennedy Afonso recalled Ozario as both an inspiration and a guiding force. “When I first met him in Mangalore, he welcomed us and shared all paperwork and petitions he had filed in the Karnataka High Court to support our Romi Konknni movement in Goa,” Kennedy said.
He added that during their second meeting, Ozario brought together Konkani associations from Karnataka for a presentation on the need to unite under an All India Konknni Maha Sabha. “It was approved by Eric, and the All India Konkani Scripts Committee was selected, with me as convenor. Sadly, the Maha Sabha never took shape in his lifetime, but we assure it will happen soon,” Kennedy noted.
Remembering him as a constant supporter, Kennedy said GRLA had lost “a good friend and mentor who stood by Romi Konknni always.”
