Taking serious note of the farmers’ grievances with regards to release of subsidy and availability of agricultural equipment, the State Agriculture Department is working on modalities to facilitate faster disbursement of claims and schemes to the farmers.
Seizing the opportunity after being invited to put forth suggestions in the new Agriculture policy, farmers across the State, during taluka level meetings held with ZAOs, highlighted various concerns with regards to non-payment or delay in release of support prices or claims or benefits/ subsidies under various schemes.
The farmers also brought to the notice of the agriculture officers about non availability of tractors, harvest machine, power tiller, grass cutter and other agricultural equipment thus causing great hardship to them, as they have to travel other talukas or take help from private suppliers for their day-to-day use.
Speaking to The Goan, Director Agriculture Nevil Alphonso said “due to these meetings, we have come across various issues and problems faced by the farmers. We have taken this in a positive way to improve our functioning and are taking steps to clear the road blocks”.
