The Telaulim gram sabha on Sunday,  which was attended by just around 14 members, has resolved to rope in an  NGO to tackle the increasing menace from the stray dogs.

The gram sabha which was chaired by Sarpanch Estevan Goes  deliberated on the stray dog menace in the village and the failure of a  mechanism to tackle the issue.

Members pointed out that how stray dogs  have been on the prowl in and around the Coldem-Dialdona area in the  village, creating fear and anxiety in the minds of the ward people.

After much discussions, the Sarpanch informed that the  Panchayat would write a letter to the Goa Animal Welfare Trust with a  plea to take up the work on the Animal Birth Control (ABC) program on  priority.

The Sarpanch later told the media that the panchayat would  immediately write to the NGO to take up the ABC program in the village  immediately.

The gram sabha also deliberated on an issue raised by a  gram sabha on the reported consumption of liqour and drugs at a  particular bandh in the village.

Members demanded that the Panchayat  immediately take up the matter with the Margao police for urgent action  and protect the village youth from the menace.

Sarpanch Estevan later told the media that the Panchayat  would write a letter to the Margao police with a request to carry out  patrolling of the place mentioned by the gram sabha members.

Incidentally, the Sarpanch pointed out that he had taken up the matter  with the Margao police sometime back, but the police had suggested to  the panchayat to install CCTV cameras to monitor the movements of the  people and keep the antis-ocial

elements at bay.
