Demand action against organisation, seek police protection

Talvorda women complain of harassment

MARGAO
A group of women from Talvorda area of Cuncolim Municipal area descended at the Cuncolim police station on Sunday evening to lodge their complaints against some persons, allegedly belonging to some right wing organisations.

Led by women’s rights activist Tara Kerkar, the women lodged their complaint how certain persons, including outsiders, have been meting out harassment to the original inhabitants of the area.

Tara Kerkar has warned that the women will not keep quite if the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant does not issue strict instructions to the Cuncolim police to put behind bars the persons involved in the incident.

One of the woman members Vandana Gaonkar has demanded the safety and security of the women folk from the area, saying they are being threatened and harassed by members of an organisation. “We are the original inhabitants of the area, but we are no longer safe. Those who have threatened us are not staying here, some of them are outsiders,” she said.

Another woman Kamaxi Goankar said a leader of the group has claimed to be a member of a Hindu organisation. She however, has sought to know why are they harassing and threatening the Hindus of the area. “These people have built a place of worship along our way, and they park their vehicles on the road, blocking our traditional way. When we questioned them, they are now threatening us,” she said, while demanding justice and security.
