OLD GOA

Merces Sarpanch Pramod Kamat, along with Panch Dayesh Vengurlekar, caught a tanker red-handed disposing of septic waste in the fields at Merces on Tuesday night.

Sarpanch Kamat informed The Goan that he was receiving complaints that several tankers were disposing of septic waste in the fields at nighttime.

“Panch Vengurlekar also saw one of the tankers disposing of septic waste on Monday night, and on Tuesday night, we decided to keep a vigil so that we could catch the activity red-handed,” Kamat informed.

“Accordingly, we found one tanker disposing of septic waste in the fields on Tuesday night and we informed the Old Goa police who attached the tanker as well as arrested the driver,” Kamat stated while demanding that it appears to be a big racket in which the septic disposal tankers are using fields to dispose of the same.

“A proper ramp has been constructed for parking the tanker and then a PVC pipe has been laid through which the sewage is then disposed of in the fields,” Kamat added.

Panch Vengurlekar informed that the activity begins at 9 pm and continues till 1 am with around 20 tankers disposing of their septic waste in the fields. He then stated that such activity could be happening in other areas as well.

“The people need to stay alert and watch out for any such suspicious activity as it could be the modus operandi employed in other areas as well,” Vengurlekar said.
