Task force set up to check river pollution

PANAJI: The State government has constituted Special Environment Surveillance Task Forces for North and South Goa district to check pollution of river stretches in and illegal sand mining from river beds.
North Goa Collector, Levinson Martins will head the task force of North Goa, while his counterpart Agnelo Fernandes will head the one in South Goa.
The District Superintendent of Police (North Goa), Chandan Choudhari and Dr Mohan Girap (Scientist) at Goa State Pollution Control Board will be members and Reina Fernandes of the North District Legal Services Authority is named member-secretary of the task force for north Goa.
Similarly the South Goa task force has the District Superintendent of Police Arvind Gawas and Jenica Sequeira (Scientist) at GSPCB as members.
The notification constituting these district-level task forces issued by Environment Director Sanjeev Joglekar, also states that they will ensure that no illegal mining take place in the river belt of polluted stretches.
South Goa District Legal Services secretary will officiate as its Member-Secretary.
