The Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao Saiee Prabhudesai on Wednesday acquitted all the eight persons, who were charged for the assault on former Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar on the day of the UTAA agitation at Bali on May 25, 2011.
The eight persons Prashant Faldesai, Mohan Faldesai, Satyendra Faldesai, Vinod Faldesai, Arun Faldesai, Surendra Faldesai, Dayanand Kholkar and Rupesh Naik Desai were charged by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for allegedly assaulting Tawadkar on the day of the Balli riots. The CBI had examined as many as 55 witnesses in support of the case.
Defence lawyer, Adv Amay Prabhudesai, who was representing the eight accused persons had contended that there’s no evidence whatsoever to implicate his clients in the case. Tawadkar had claimed that he was assaulted by the group during the Balli riots on the day of the UTAA agitation.
