Saying that he is closely monitoring the process set in motion to provide political reservations for the ST communities, Minister for Tribal Welfare Ramesh Tawadkar on Wednesday expressed confidence that political reservations will be implemented in the 2027 elections for the Goa Legislative Assembly.
Tawadkar’s statement made on Wednesday assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of the recent remarks by the Chief of United Tribal Alliance Association (UTAA), expressing his unhappiness over the process initiated to provide political reservations for the STs.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the programme held in Navelim to commemorate the death anniversary of Dr Francisco Luis Gomes, the Tribal Welfare Minister further said that the process towards the appointment of the Commissioner has been set in motion.
“The government is very serious about implementing the ST reservation law. I am following up with the concerned officials on the progress of implementing the legislation. The Chief Minister has drafted one of his OSDs to coordinate with the Tribal Welfare department to provide updates on the process,” he said.
Saying that the concerned authorities are providing updates on the status of the process towards the implementation of the law, Tawadkar said he is confident that the ST communities will get political reservations in the 2027 elections.
