Hundreds of taxi operators on Tuesday staged a morcha at the Mapusa RTO to protest against notices issued to three Black-Yellow taxi operators of Tivim Railway Station for taking part in the agitation to demand scrapping of the GoaMiles app-based taxi service.
The morcha was led by Vasu Arlekar, Chetan Kamat, Bappa Korgaokar, Nitesh Chodankar after invoking the blessing of Dev Bodgeshwar.
A Mapusa police team under guidance of PI Kapil Nayak stopped the morcha at the gate of the KTC stand and permitted a six-member delegation to meet the RTO officials.
The delegation argued with Assistant Director of Transport R B Naik who told them notices were issued to three Black-Yellow taxi operators because they acted against law.
The three Black-Yellow taxi operators been asked to respond to the notices immediately or face action.
The delegation requested to give them four days time to answer as they wanted to consult their legal counsel, a demand which was rejected by Naik. Bappa Korgaokar told Naik there was no alternative other than to launch a ‘Jail-Bharo’ agitation.
Naik told delegation that there about 125 Black-Yellow taxis in Bardez and process is in progress to issue them notices for violating the ESMA.
The taxi operators then gathered at Bodguini and condemned the government, while vowing to fight until the GoaMiles app is scrapped.
