With a grievance that there is no business during the pandemic, the North Goa Tourist Taxi Owners Association (NGTTOA) has urged the government to extend the time for the fitment of digital taxi meters.
The transport department has warned taxi operators that if digital meters are not installed in time the permits of the taxi operators will not be renewed. The transport department has started fitting the digital meters from May 20.
Some of the taxi operators visited the Transport department on Tuesday with their grievances.
The taxi operators leader Bappa Korgaonkar said that the government has not revised the rates taxi fare chart and if the meter is fitted in this situation running a taxi business will be impossible.
The demand of scrapping the app-based taxi aggregator system is also not met, he said.
Bappa threatened that all taxi operators will surrender their permits in protest if government force them to install meters.
North Goa Tourist Taxi Association Vice President Vengurlekar said that taxi meters cost more than Rs 11,000 which many taxi association members cannot afford.
