Local taxi operators have raised strong objections against the alleged illegal operations of app-based aggregator Gozo cabs in Goa, claiming the service is threatening their livelihood and functioning without proper permissions.

The North and South Goa Taxi Union lodged a complaint with the Calangute Police after a Karnataka-registered vehicle reportedly arrived at Kamat Holiday Homes Hotel for a pick-up through the Gozo platform.

Union members said that while local taxi drivers struggled to get clients, the out-of-state cab secured business via the app.

Treasurer of the association, Terrance D’Souza in his complaint said their inquiries with the driver confirmed that the ride had been booked through the Kolkata-based aggregator.

“This practice is a direct violation of State rules, as the Chief Minister has categorically stated that taxi aggregators are not permitted to operate in Goa,” D’Souza alleged.

Taxi driver Yogesh Govekar alias Mogambo echoed the concerns, questioning the government’s silence on the matter. He said services like Gozo were unfairly affecting the income of traditional taxi drivers, while allegedly bypassing regulatory permissions. The union has urged the police to investigate the matter and take strict action against the vehicles and individuals.
