E-cigarettes worth Rs 6.83 lakh seized in South Goa raids

Two held as police step up action against illicit drug trafficking and tobacco violations in special drive

To strengthen action against illicit drugs and to achieve the goal of a society free of drug abuse, the South Goa police conducted a special drive against drug abuse and illicit trafficking wherein, establishments / shops were checked to ensure a smoke-free environment and preventing the sale of tobacco products.

During the special drive undertaken by South District Police, raids were conducted at six different places – Shahi Hookah, Calconda Margao; Al-Abrab, shop Near Old Collectorate Building, Margao; Shop of Pop Corn Store, near Cine Vasco; Al-Abrah Shop Near Kadar Super Market, Benaulim; Al-Abrah Shop near Kadar Super Market, Colva; Al-Abrah Shop near Baskins & Robins, ice cream centre Colva.

The police have seized e-cigarettes valued around Rs 6.83 lakh and registered offences under Section 7 of Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes (Production, Manufacture, Import, Export, Transport, Sale, Distributions, Storage and Advertisement) Act 2019.

Meanwhile, Colva police ordered a crackdown illegal sale of e-cigarettes, under the supervision of Police Inspector Vikram Naik, SDPO Margao Siddhant Shirodkar and SP South Tikam Singh Verma.

During the raids, two persons were apprehended and booked under the provisions of the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes (Production, Manufacture, Import, Export, Transport, Sale, Distribution, Storage and Advertisement) Act, 2019.
