The TCP along with Merces panchayat on Thursday conducted a joint inspection of two projects in the village, following allegations by an NGO Merces Manch Welfare Association (MMWA) that they were approved without cross-checking of facts pertaining to the width of the road and other aspects. Incidentally, both projects belonged to a common builder.
At the inspection, it came to light that the width of the existing roads near both the projects was less than 4 metres, while it was shown as 6 metres on the plan.
Speaking to the media, MMWA President Suresh Kalangutkar alleged that after ascertaining the reality, it has now become clear that both the projects were approved without proper site inspection. Citing a TCP circular, another villager Paulo D’Souza said it has been clearly mentioned that a thorough site inspection shall be conducted before granting permission to housing projects.
“However, regarding these two projects, it appears that a thorough site inspection was not done,” D’Souza stated, while demanding that those responsible should be dealt with as per law.
Some MMWA members opined that the NGO should take the issue to the court so that the issue is taken to its logical conclusion.
When contacted, a TCP official informed that the projects were approved by following proper procedure. On the width of the road, the official said that the notified plans were referred to.
Merces Sarpanch Sunita Palyekar, Deputy Sarpanch Armstrong Braganza and others were present during the inspection.
