The Bombay High Court at Goa on Tuesday refused to stay the framing of charges against Tarun Tejpal due for September 28, but asked the trial court to defer the examination of the first witness after Tejpal challenged the framing of charges by the trial court.
The trial court is due to frame charges against Tejpal on September 28 for alleged sexual assault against a
junior staffer.
"If the trial court frames the charges, it will defer the examination of the first witness till the disposal of this criminal revision application," Justice Prithviraj Chavan said in an interim order passed in the matter.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had issued directions to expedite the trial and in view of that the High Court has posted the hearing on the appeal filed by Tejpal after the Diwali vacations.
