The High Court of Telangana at Hyderabad has adjourned the anticipatory bail plea of Curlies’ alleged owner Edwin Nunes to October 6, which is when the Single Bench will also hear a bunch of applications filed by the other drug offenders wanted in the same case.
The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) and the Osmania University Police are on the lookout for 174-odd suspected drug dealers, traffickers, and consumers in the inter-state drug racket unearthed last month. All the accused, stationed in different parts of India including Goa, have gone into hiding.
“Several applications for anticipatory bail are filed before the High Court in the same matter. Nunes’ plea challenging Metropolitan Court’s order dismissing his request for pre-arrest bail will be heard on October 6 along with the others,” lawyer for one of the petitioners told The Goan from Hyderabad. Anjuna local Pritesh Borkar and a few others had confessed to Osmania police about being a part of the lethal network while disclosing names of their associates spread across different states.
Nunes had filed a petition on September 26, which was slated for arguments on September 28, Wednesday. He prayed for his release in the event of his arrest in connection with the crime of Osmania police station “in the interest of justice” and pass judgment. When the matter came up for hearing, the Bench adjourned the matter for October 6.
The public prosecutor, representing the State of Telangana has opposed the anticipatory bail requests stating the police are working overtime to break the larger network of drug cartels operating from several states including Goa.
The PP is also expected to make a submission informing about seeking assistance from various state police to crackdown on the drug menace.
