Temple bodies should help to develop villages: CM

CM Pramod Sawant has called upon temple committees to utilise their resources for the development of villages.

He was speaking at Parsem after laying the foundation stone for the accommodation of devotees of Shri Bhagwati Devasthan on the occasion of Dussehra.

Mandrem MLA and Chairman of Goa Housing Board Jit Arolkar, former MLA Dayanand Sopte, Parsem Sarpanch Ajay Kalangutkar, Ganpat Kalangutkar, President of Sri Bhagwati Devasthan Pradeep Desai, were also present on the occasion.

The chief minister lauded the decision of the Sri Bhagwati Devasthan to construct a residential block for devotees.

“Temples in Goa are financially sound and some religious organisations undertake social activities, run schools and colleges and contribute towards development,” said Sawant.

President of Sri Bhagwati Devasthan Pradeep Desai later proposed the vote of thanks.

70-yr-old woman dies after falling into well in Verla

MAPUSAA 70-year-old woman died after falling into a well at Verla-Canca late Friday evening.Vatsala Korgaonkar had fallen into the well near her house and when this incident came to light, family members notified the fire station.Fire and emergency personnel went to the site and pulled her out, but she had drowned in the well.Mapusa police conducted a panchnama and handed the body to family members after an autopsy on Saturday.
