A temporary fencing erected along the Tolleaband-Benaulim stretch of the road soon after the Khareband bridge raised many an eyebrow, with local residents as well as NGOs demanding immediate dismantling of the fencing.
The residents along with activist Felix Dias descended on the spot for an inspection as he apprehended that the fencing is being erected to camouflage the development taking place inside, including alleged filling of land.
However, when the people confronted the owner, he maintained that he has erected the temporary fencing to ward off dumping of waste into his property. And, he assured the group that he would immediately dismantle the fencing if they harbor suspicions over the installation.
Benaulim Zilla Panchayat member Maria Rebello demanded that the temporary fencing ought to be removed immediately, while further demanding an inspection of the entire place to ascertain the extent of filing in the area. Local ward member, Felicia, who was present at the spot, pointed out that the panchayat had recently inspected the area, adding that she would ask the panchayat body to send a notice to the owner.
Dias demanded that the authorities immediately carry out an inspection of the entire area to ascertain the extent of filling.
He also demanded to know the status of the scrap yard operating in the area.
