PANAJI
It may be recalled that on August 2, the Goa Legislative Assembly unanimously passed the Goa Agricultural Tenancy (Amendment) Bill, 2017 which undid the amendments made by
the previous BJP government to transfer the tenancy cases from mamlatdar to civil courts.
The amendments also revive the powers of Collectors and the Administrative Tribunal as Appellant bodies under the Act.
The demand to transfer the cases back to mamlatdar courts was put forth by the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) as well as a certain section of the BJP legislators who blamed the earlier amendments during the previous BJP govt as being one of the main reasons for party's (BJP) poor show at the recent hustings.
