In a bid to streamline the functioning of the LED street light illumination, the power department has set up a centralized LED light repair workshop, which is presently on the job to repair and test around 24,000 LED lights.

That’s not all. Power Minister Nilesh Cabral has announced that a tender has been floated to make available street light maintenance vehicles with ladder at every power division under private-public partnership.

He further said that the department will provide 100 LED lamps to each of the power divisions to facilitate replacements of the non-functioning lights as a stop-gap arrangement before these go for repairs.

The Power Minister was at the Pajifond power sub-station along with Chief Electrical Engineer Raghuvir Keni and Executive Engineer Santosh Lolienkar on Saturday noon which has now been designated as a centralized LED light repair and testing workshop.

“After I took charge of the power portfolio, I had to face the issue of LED lights and the removal of the contractor. Departmentally, we have started the work of repairing the LED lights. We have to streamline the street-light functioning as people are very much sensitive to the functioning of these,” he said.

He pointed out that once the tender is opened, every power division will get hired vehicles for street light maintenance.

“The objective behind this exercise is to ensure that people get these streetlights working 365 days and not just for Ganesh Chaturthi or other festivals”, he added.

Explaining the decision to allot 100 spare LED lights to the power divisions, Cabral said whenever any street light is found non-functioning, the same will be removed and sent for repair and testing, “In the meantime, the respective division can use these spare lights to ensure there’s uninterrupted illumination on the ground,” he added.

Complimenting the workers engaged for the repairs and testing of LED lights, Cabral patted the workers on their back for their dedicated work and recognize their services by handing them with a token of appreciation.

“During a short span, you have managed to repair the LED lights which helped to illuminate many areas. You certainly deserve the praise and appreciation,” the minister said.

Outlining the objective of setting up a centralized LED repair and testing workshop, Cabral said since LED lights have more sophisticated components, these need systematic and organized mechanism with proper testing facility.

“You have around 24,000 LED lights to be repaired and more will come in the coming days,” he told the workers, while urging them to work with enthusiasm

and dedication.
