The CCP has been facingproblems of dumping and management of garbage on account of non-availability ofa treatment plant.
The CCP mayor said that healong with Panaji MLA Atanasio Monseratte held a meeting with the ChiefMinister on Thursday to discuss the issue of the Garbage treatment plant."In the meeting, the Chief Minister assured us of floating a tender forthe Baiguinim plant within ten days."
We are hopeful that theconstruction of this plant will be completed before the commencement of thetourism season, he said.
"If we get a good garbagetreatment site, Panaji city will be higher in the nation Index of cleanestcities," the CCP Mayor said.
The CCP will be using 1.71lakh sq mts of land at Bainguinim to set up a garbage treatment plant for which the land at Bainguinim was acquiredby the state government and handed over to the CCP in early 2009. However, nowork has started yet. The Corporation has handed over the land to the Goa WasteManagement Corporation (GWMC).
The plant will be moreadvanced than the Saligao treatment plant and people need not worry about thesmell of odor of the waste, said Madkaikar.
Presently, garbage from Panajiis transported to Saligao treatment plant and also some waste dumped atdifferent sites, however, the High Court has directed the CCP to stop dumpingat different sites and treat the waste scientifically.
