Tension rent at the air at the communally sensitive Rumdamol housing board area on Saturday after Bajrang Dal workers led by President Viraj Desai staged a protest against the assault on Goa Ghau Raksha chief Bhagwan Redkar by a person allegedly running an illegal fast food centre.
The Maina Curtorim police requisitioned additional police reinforcements as a precautionary measure to deal with any situation.
The Bajrang Dal workers staged a protest near the fast food kiosk, demanding that the police and the Panchayat initiate action against the structure. Desai demanded to know how the structure is operating the fast food centre when it has no permissions from the concerned authorities.
They also demanded the removal of illegal stalls selling non-vegetarian items and beef near Maruti Temple and Swami Samarth Temple (Samarth Gad). Rumdamol Housing Board. Margao, and inquiry into unauthorized business activities, public nuisance. cleanliness issues, and possible illegal utility connections.
Maina Curtorim police in-charge, PI Kapil Nayak handled the situation with tact, as he got some portion of the structure removed. He also told the Bajrang Dal leader that the police would initiate action as per law in force and also write to the concerned authorities to inquire into the operating of the fast food stall.
Based on the assurance handed over by the PI and the telephonic conversation with the Panchayat official, the Bajrang Dal leaders dispersed from the area.
