Students may have started their academic year on June 4, but education authorities are yet to distribute textbooks to all government schools and government aided schools in the State and hope to complete the exercise by next week.
Officials say, the textbooks for Stds 1 to 8 to be distributed in government aided schools will arrive by Saturday, with two truckloads of textbooks arriving in Goa twice each day.
When brought to his notice that parents and guardians were unhappy that students were yet to get textbooks in many schools, CM’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Sitaram Naik said all textbooks would be delivered by Saturday. “Last year’s stock of textbooks has been distributed in a phased manner. The printing of new textbooks has been done in Kolhapur and two truckloads of textbooks are arriving the State everyday and it is then delivered to various schools,” he added.
“The printing contractor has pressed four vehicles into service to dispatch and supply the textbooks in the State. These workers immediately supply textbooks to the schools. All textbooks will delivered by Saturday and they will be immediately distributed to various schools,” said Naik.
Naik informed that students of Std 1 and Std 3 in government primary schools have already been given raincoats, while students from Stds 2, 3 and 4 are given notebooks. “This work has been given to the marketing federation this year,” said Naik.
“Students in Std 1 and Std 3 in government primary schools have been provided with school uniforms and the work has been entrusted to the Khadi and Village Industries Board. By June end, they will finish distributing these uniforms to the students,” Naik added.
