Together for University (TFU), an independent students’ panel, who claim to have got their 11 candidates elected unopposed, on Monday strongly condemned the Goa University’s action to cancel the process of Post-Graduation Students Union election, with immediate effect without citing any reason behind the decision.
The election for Group Representatives was scheduled on August 21 while the Executive Body was supposed to be elected on September 1. TFU has made a representation to the Vice Chancellor demanding to know the reason behind sudden postponement of the election after completion of the nomination and scrutiny process.
Addressing a press conference, TFU President Sahil Gad pointed out the nomination and scrutiny process was completed and list of candidates was also declared just a few minutes before the elections were postponed. He said that 11 candidates from their panel were elected unopposed.
“If there were some errors in the election process, why did the University allow the entire process to get complete?” he questioned, demanding that the Varsity should continue with the candidate list when the new election dates are announced.
TFU alleged possible involvement of ABVP, under whose pressure the University postponed the polls.
