Congress veteran Luizinho Faleiro appeared a man in a hurry on Sunday. Time was running out for him and every minute turned precious as the veteran was on the job throughout Sunday to contact his close aides and supporters over the phone.
Reason: The two-time former Chief Minister has finally decided to take a decision on his future political career on Monday. He did not specify the nature of his decision he would take on Monday, but was candid in admitting that he has been in touch with I-PAC. He agreed I-PAC Chief Prashant Kishore was scheduled to meet him on Sunday, even admitting that I-PAC has been in touch with him on behalf of the Mamata Didi’s Trinamool Congress.
Saying that he was on a Tapasiya (meditation) for two days, Faleiro asserted that Goa and Goans are suffering and that Goa deserves better. When questioned over the nature of his decision on Monday, and whether he would sever ties with the Congress to embrace the TMC, Faleiro restricted himself by saying he will take an appropriate decision at the appropriate time in the interest of the State and its people.
Sources say Prashant Kishore was scheduled to have a meeting with Faleiro on Sunday. “I am in touch with I-PAC. Prashant was scheduled to meet me. I am in touch with Prashant Kishore. I have not met TMC leaders, but I-PAC have been acting on their behalf”, he said.
“For the last two days I was on Tapasiya (meditation). Goa and its people deserves better. I am taking a decision tomorrow”, he said.
Faleiro claimed that he utilized the entire Sunday to contact his workers, supporters and well wishers and also played host to many of his aides throughout the day. “I have called up at least 500 persons and also interacted with my supporters at my residence on Sunday. I am expecting to meet many more people on Monday morning, before I take a decision”, he said.
He added: “People of Goa, including the thinkers, intellectuals and the common man are worried what is happening to Goa and who is going to give a fight to save Goa. Many such people had called me over the last few days”.
The Congress veteran, who was entrusted the party responsibility at the national level by Party president Sonia Gandhi in the past, made it clear that he will never talk against the Congress leader, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. And, Faleiro added that he is wedded to the Congress party’s ideology, principles, policies and programme and the programme of the Congress family.
“I will never talk against the Congress leaders, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. I have worked under them. Let me remind you, the Congress party was founded by great leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Patel and was run by leader such as Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi”, he added.
