Vasco police has succeeded in apprehending theft accused P Ramesh who had escaped from the lawful custody of the police at GMC while being taken for medical examination on April 28.
Vasco PI Kapil Nayak speaking to reporters said that the police formed two teams to track down the absconding accused who was finally caught in Chicalim on Sunday evening.
" We had registered a theft case in the month of February where one unknown culprit had broken the glass of a parked car and stolen Rs 2.5 lakh in cash. We registered a crime and after investigation we arrested the accused P Ramesh and on the same day we took him to the GMC for medical examination. However after the Medical examination, he managed to escape from the lawful custody of the police and we filed a complaint an registered an offence at Agassaim police station," said Nayak.
"We then put all our efforts to trace the accused using all the machinery including human intelligence and technical assistance. We sent a team led by PI Ganesh Matondkar two days ago to Tamil Nadu after we traced his location but when our team reached there and we're observing his location, we realised through technical assistance that the location was showing towards Belgaum side, " added Nayak.
"We sent another team led by PSI Swapnil Naik, PC Purshottam Naik and other to keep a watch and again while we were keeping a watch, we realised that tbe accused was moving towards Goa. We alerted our team and we led a trap in the city area across Goa and finally we detained him at Chicalim and we have lodged him in the lock up and taken 5 days remand to investigate in this case," said Nayak.
"We had seen two persons involved in the theft case on CCTV and we have doubt that another person may be involved in the theft case, but the accused is tight lipped and not disclosing information till now, he added.
"During our investigation we realised that when we had arrested him the first time, he has given us a false name as P Ramesh but we realised yesterday that his actual name as per identity card is Ramesh Subbarao. We are carrying out our investigation after which we will hand him over to Agassaim police station for further investigation," said Nayak.
