Thermal screening of passengers at the Konkan Railway Corporation’s Margao railway station began on Wednesday, with the KRC drafting staff to screen both incoming and outgoing passengers at the railway station.
After a passenger was found with a high temperature of close to 100 centigrade, KRC deputy general manager, Baban Ghatge, said he was attended to by the KRC doctor, who advised him to subject himself to medical examination if the fever did not subside.
Incidentally, though thermal screening of passengers was carried out at the main entrance gate, there was on screening of passengers on the footbridge, which takes passengers to the Aquem side of the railway station.
Ghatge told The Goan that not a single case with symptoms of coronavirus was detected during the screening of the passengers. “Only one passenger with fever was spotted. Our doctor attended to the passenger and advised him to subject himself to medical examination if the fever did not subside”, he said.
The KRC official pointed out that a number of steps have been undertaken to ensure the safety of passengers. While saying that the Mangalore-Margao inter-city express has been cancelled as a matter of abundant precaution till March 30, Ghatge further said that the Jabalpur-Coimbatore express running on the KRC tracks has also been cancelled till March 31.
“We have taken a number of safety precautions, both in the interest of the passengers as well as the KRC manning the railway stations. The KRC is geared up to face any situation”, Ghatge added.
